At five million people, and growing at 2,700 people a week, Melbourne is jam packed.
Melbourne’s west has received the majority of this growth, with Tarneit increasing by 3,270 people (9%) in just one year between 2016 – 2017. Truganina increased by 2,975 people (11.9%). Sunbury continues to grow reaching 40,000 people in 2017. An increase of 18% in just 10 years.
Unplanned, unmanaged population growth is killing Melbourne's liveability. If we don’t take action now Melbourne will go from the world’s most liveable city to an urban claustrophobia.

Family violence strangulation laws
There is no single solution to something as complex as family violence but stronger sentencing laws will put offenders behind bars for longer and send a strong message of zero tolerance.
That’s why a Liberal Nationals Government will legislate to amend the Crimes Act to make non-fatal strangulation, choking and suffocation in a domestic setting a criminal offence punishable by up to 10 years jail.
Sex offenders cause enormous harm to the community with many victims suffering lifelong trauma. Under Daniel Andrews, the number of sexual assaults has increased dramatically, rising 24.35% between 2014 and 2016.
As part of our plan to put the interests of law abiding citizens first, the Liberal Nationals will introduce a ‘Victorian Serious Sex Offenders Public Register’ that will publicly disclose certain details of adult serious sex offenders, including photographs, identifying descriptions and the current area where they live.
